The Lahore High Court on Wednesday extended Pro-active bail of former railways minister and PML-N senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Salman Rafique for 15 days. The Khwaja brothers appeared before a division bench along with their counsel with a request for extension in the concession of bail.
The NAB is investigating against the Khawaja brothers in Paragon housing society case. Saad Rafique is also facing inquiries regarding railways and Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme.
Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Saad Rafique on Tuesday (Nov 13) filed a petition in the Lahore High Court against National Accountability Bureau (NAB) DG Lahore Saleem Shahzad, which is stated that “Saleem Shahzad has become a party against PML-N and his recent media interviews prove that. When he is no longer an independent person then how can the inquiries be transparent?”
“NAB DG Lahore is conducting a media trial of PML-N members and sharing confidential information pertaining to inquiries on TV channels,” the petition added. “All inquiries of PML-N leaders under NAB DG Lahore should be transferred,” he urged.
Earlier National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal on Monday (Nov. 12), directed all NAB officials for not giving interviews to media outlets. During his visit to Lahore office to review performance regarding corruption cases, he made it clear that only bureau’s spokesperson would be responsible for giving “NAB’s version to the media and public”.
“If the media channels request for information regarding any reference or case, only the bureau’s spokesperson has been authorised to share the relevant information [with them],” it is stated. “NAB is strictly following the policy of ‘accountability for all’ and taking mega corruption cases to their logical conclusion is the first priority,” he said during the visit.
Last week, during National Assembly, session, opposition parties accused Saleem of carrying out a ‘media trial’ of opposition politicians and urged the house for ‘immediate intervention’ in the matter. Earlier , Saleem in political talk shows on different TV channels. talked about the ongoing corruption charges against PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and said that “NAB would file a reference by the end of this month against Shehbaz, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly”.
