Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to investigate Sahiwal killing of four people, under AIG Aijaz Shah’s supervision, in its initial findings held Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials responsible for killing of people in Sahiwal and declared Late Khalil’s family innocent as they have no links with terrorists, said Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Law Minister Basharat Raja said that the JIT, has blamed CTD officials for killing of Khalil’s family and “In view of the JIT report, the government has decided to remove the AIG and DIG CTD from their posts,” he told the media. “The SSP and DSP CTD Sahiwal region have been suspended,” Raja said. “The AIG (Operations) has also been removed from his post and directed to report to the federal government,” the minister further said. “Five CTD officials involved in the killing have been booked under Section 302 (of Pakistan Penal Code) and they would be tried in an anti terrorism court,” Raja said.
While pointing out the speedy development in investigation of the incident, Raja said, . “Never before in the history of this province action has been taken in such a case within 72 hours”.
Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday (Jan 19) claimed that four alleged terrorists, members of militant organisation, Daesh, including two women were shot dead, in an operation near GT Road, Sahiwal. Ten officials in uniform and six in plainclothes carried out the operation. They intercepted the vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire, resulting in the death of four persons. According to postmortem report, the deceased driver, Zeeshan, received 10 bullets while the children’s father, Khaleel, was shot 13 times and mother, Nabeela Bibi, received four bullets while 13-year-old Areeba was shot six times.
