The Lahore High Court on Thursday (Jan 24) while hearing a petition to conduct a judicial inquiry into the Sahiwal tragedy, directed the joint investigation team (JIT) head to appear before the Court on February 4 along with JIT report.
As the hearing went underway, LHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan asked the IG , “How was the police allowed to fire?”. To this, the inspector general told the court that those responsible have been arrested and a JIT has been formed to probe the incident. “CTD officials involved in the incident have been suspended,” he told the court.
Earlier on January 19, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed that four alleged terrorists, members of militant organisation, Daesh, including two women were shot dead, in an operation near GT Road, Sahiwal. Ten officials in uniform and six in plainclothes carried out the operation. They intercepted the vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire, resulting in the death of four persons. Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to investigate Sahiwal killing of four people, under AIG Aijaz Shah’s supervision, in its initial findings held Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials responsible for killing of people in Sahiwal and declared Late Khalil’s family innocent as they have no links with terrorists, said Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja.
But on the other hand the intelligence agencies claim that strong evidence have been found that prove that driver Zeeshan was in contact with terrorists as mobile phone seized on shows him pictured with a high profile terrorists who was killed in CTD’s operation in Faisalabad on January 15.
