The Saudi Minister of information and media Turki al-Shabanah took to the twitter to deny the report published in British newspaper Sun. The Daily Sun newspaper claimed in a report that Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman offered £3.8-billion to buy one of the world’s richest and most watched Football club Manchester United.
The Saudi minister clarified that a meeting between Saudi wealth fund and club’s officials did take place but to discuss the sponsorship for the club. No discussion regarding the Saudi takeover of the club took place in the meeting. The Crown prince is not interested to buy Manchester united. Reports that Mohammed Bin Salman intends to buy the club are “completely false”, the minister, Turki al-Shabanah, wrote on social network Twitter.
The British tabloid Sun said the crown prince was in a £3.8-billion takeover bid for one of football’s most popular clubs. The paper claimed that a bid was first submitted in October but diplomatic hurdles put the ‘skids’ on a potential offer.
The Minister confirmed that “Manchester United held a meeting with PIF Saudi to discuss (a) sponsorship opportunity,” adding that no deal materialised.
