A three-judge bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar will hear a petition filed by National Accountability Bureau today, against the sentence suspension of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar in the Avenfield properties reference.
NAB challenged the earlier decision of the Islamabad High Court suspending the Sharif’s jail term and filed a petition in Supreme Court. The three politician were imprisoned in Adiala Jail before the IHC on September 19 suspended their sentences.
In initial petition, NAB argued that “Islamabad High Court (IHC) had failed to appreciate that through its order, it had seriously prejudiced the case of the prosecution by holding that the trial court judgment suffered from obvious and glaring defects and infirmities and that the convictions and sentences handed down to the accused might not be sustained ultimately.”
NAB appealed the apex court to cancel the bail granted to Sharif’s.
