Opposition leader in National Assembly and former chief minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif on Monday (March 18) appeared before a joint investigation team top record his statements in a case pertaining to model town incident. The JIT team headed by Inspector General (IG) Motorways AD Khawaja had re;launched investigation into killing of PAT workers. According to sources, Nawaz was inquired by the JIT for about 45 minutes.
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) will also interrogate former premier Nawaz Sharif in the Model Town case today (March 18).
The Model Town Massacre was a violent clash between the Punjab Police and Pakistan Awami Tehreek activists on 17 June 2014, in which at least 14 people were killed and over 100 were injured by police gunfire. The clashes were started when the police launched an operation to remove the barriers from the road leading to the offices of Minhaj-ul-Quran and the residence of PAT founder Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri in Model Town, Lahore.
