Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa on Sunday (June 9) while responding a question regarding references against Supreme Court’s Justice Qazi Faez Isa and other superior judges, has made it clear that the government could not remove Supreme Court’s Justice and the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) would deal with the matter fairly.
“Trust the judges. They will ensure justice [in the matter],” the chief justice said. The CJP said he could not comment further on the matter as it had to be heard by the council. While speaking on other issues, Justice Khosa said “If the system is not fully functional in ensuring justice, the judiciary is not responsible for that. Our society is struggling to ensure the rule of law,” he added.
Earlier Law Ministry had clarified that Assets Recovery Unit of Prime Minister’s Office had received a complaint in respect of foreign properties of three learned Judges and the matter was placed before ministry for appropriate action. In a joint statement, spokesmen of Law Ministry and Assets Recovery Unit of Prime Minister’s Office said the Law Minister directed the Assets Recovery Unit to verify the contents of the complaint, clearly suggesting that action would only be taken once authentic verification is received.
On the other hand Justice Qazi Faez Isa has written another letter to President of Pakistan Arif Alvi saying that a character assassination campaign against him had been kicked off on the media. He said that his children and spouse, who own three properties in the United Kingdom, are not his dependents.
