According to the sources, The research has disclosed that the new variant of COVID-19 linked to a rapid hike in infections in South Africa has been detected in Punjab.
As per to details, The research was conducted by Consultant Virologist Professor Waheed-uz-Zaman and his team.
Dr. Zaman said that no Wuhan coronavirus virus was detected in Lahore and its adjoining areas when the research was conducted over 23,000 samples collected last month.
The research also disclosed that the UK variant of COVID-19 has spread in Punjab up to 97% while South African strain of coronavirus was found 2% in Punjab.
The virologist further added that the new strains of the coronavirus are affecting children too and adults infected with the UK and South African coronavirus strains can transmit the infection to 5 to 10 other people.
It must be noted that the government of Punjab has imposed smart lockdown in several localities of Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Layyah due to a surge in coronavirus cases.
