Martyred Superintendent Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar on Thursday laid to rest and funeral prayers were offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines in Peshawar, as he was buried in Hayatabad graveyard late night. Peshawar Police presented the salute to the coffin of the martyred policeman.
KP Governor Shah Farman, Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Corps Commander Lt Gen Shaheen Mazhar, State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi and Chief Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, IG KP Salahuddin Mehsud, Shehram Tarakai, KP government spokesman Ajmal Wazir, Bereaved relatives and tribal elders attended his last rites.
SP Dawar was abducted from Islamabad’s G-10/4 area. On Tuesday, pictures believed to be his dead body was started circulating on social media. Afghanistan government has confirmed the martyrdom of Superintendent Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar, Information Minister Khyebr Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Shaukat Yousufzai said in a statement.
SP’s cousin MNA Mohsin Dawar, State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi and KP Information Minister Shaukat Yousfazi were present at the Torkham border, to receive the dead body.
State Minister Shaharyar Afridi and Shaukat Yousafzai condemned the attitude of Afghan authorities over delay in handover of SP Dawar’s body. “We waited at Torkham border crossing for two hours, but then they refused to hand over the body,” Afridi told a news briefing in Peshawar. “The attitude of the Afghanistan government was deplorable,” he said.
“The government is not silent on the issue. All government institutions and agencies are working on it silently,” he added. “We would take the issue to its logical end even if we have to go to the other side of the border.” “The Afghanistan government should rethink its attitude,” he said adding that SP Dawar’s body was insulted.
On his part, Yousafzai said “Governments should not have such attitudes”. “We went to Torkham to receive the body with full honour but Afghan officials’ attitude was not good.”
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has condemned the brutal murder of SP Dawar and said, “It is shocking that one of our top police officials is kidnapped from Islamabad and shifted to Afghanistan without being noticed.” “The way this government has dealt with the entire matter is unconvincing and a lot remains to be answered.”
