Actor Sunny Deol and cricketer Gautam Gambhir made a stunning debut this year and won their respective constituencies. Both contested on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from their respective constituencies and proved victorious with an impressive margin.
Deol, contesting from Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab defeated Congress’s Sunil Jakhar by a margin of 77,000 votes. Gambhir won in East Delhi by a whopping margin of 3, 17,000 votes.
Actor Shatrughan Sinha and his wife Poonam Sinha contested elections from two constituencies on two different political party tickets. However, both lost the election. The ‘Dostana’ actor, on the other hand, contested on a Congress ticket from Patna Sahib. He lost to BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad by over 1, 84,000+ votes.
Bhojpuri stars Manoj Tiwari and Ravi Kishan, won their constituencies on BJP ticket. Tiwari, who is also BJP’s Delhi chief, was pitted against Congress candidate Sheila Dikshit and AAP’s Dilip Pandey in North East Delhi, won in the constituency with an impressive margin of 3, 57,000 votes. Kishan, contesting from Gorakhpur constituency on BJP ticket won with huge margin of 3, 01,000 votes.
The political debut proved fruitful for some celebrities. However, some could not experience the joy of winning in their first attempt. Singer Hans Raj Hans, who debuted from North West Delhi on a BJP ticket, took a strong lead right from the start. He won by a hefty margin of 5, 53,075.
Boxer Vijender Singh, on the other hand, failed in his first attempt. Contesting from South Delhi constituency, Singh had to face loss at the hands of BJP’s Ramesh Bhiduria by a gap of 3, 96,000+ votes.
Famous actor Prakash Raj known for his villain characters had an unsuccessful stint this year. Raj contested as an independent candidate from Bengaluru Central. Raj lost the battle by the margin of 2, 70,000 votes.
