The Supreme Court has asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to set in motion an enquiry against scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand, chairman of Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) and others accountable for losses instigated to the national treasury in regard to the Thar coal gasification project.
After hearing the case regarding suspected corruption in the coal power project, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has ordered for some serious action.
CJP also commented that Mubarakmand had guaranteed free electricity initially but he closed the project after spending Rs. 4.6 billion on it. This caused a heavy financial deficit on the country. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the CJP has provided instructions to the corruption watchdog to inspect the investigate individuals involved in the project according to the final audit report that was presented by the Auditor General of Pakistan in court today.
