The humanitarian and rescue activities are underway by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in the Kasur district. The PDMA spokesman told the Radio Pakistan Lahore that water level is mounting in the River Sutlej at Gunda Singh Wala. He said that the water flow is one lac nine thousand three hundred and nineteen cusecs in the Sutlej river at the town of Hareke.
He said that there are fifty nine thousand cusecs of water at the Sutlej river at Gunda Singh Wala. He said that the PDMA rescue teams have rescued one thousand 575 persons from the inundated areas, whereas, 1728 people have been shifted to the safe places from flooded areas.
The PDMA spokesman said that the PDMA has set up nine assistance camps at Kasur, nine at Pakpattan and seven at Vehari where relief including food and medicine is being provided to the flood affectees.
Dozens of Pakistani villages were submerged and scores of people evacuated after India released up to 38,000 cusecs of water into River Sutlej without intimation earlier this week.
Over 50 villages were submerged near the Sutlej on Wednesday, including areas in Kasur, Chachran Sharif, Kot Mithan, Chanda Singhwala, Gati Kalanger, Mastayki, and Bhikiwind. Crops stretching over hundreds of acres near the bed of Sutlej were also destroyed by the flooding.
