On Monday, An Italian crew member killed and 15 others injured in the port of Aliaga, Izmir province in western Turkey, petrochemical manufacturer Petkim said.
The vessel was anchored in a port of the Petkim Petrochemical Plant, operated by the Azerbaijani national oil company SOCAR.
Roberto Montegurdia Italian crew member died in the incident.
Petkim said in a press statement,
“At Petkim Pier 5 around 23:20 (2020 GMT), a fire broke out due to an unspecified reason during the connection to the Italian flagged Synzania for the filling of liquid hydrocarbons,”
Further he said,
“As a result of the immediate intervention of our teams, the fire was extinguished and cooling work on the ship is continuing,”
Shipping agency Tribeca said the Petkim facilities were closed for the duration of the investigation, while the STAR refinery remained open.
