Onwards November 1, the popular instant messaging service WhatsApp will be unavailable for 43 different smartphone models.
According to its FAQ section, the Facebook-owned platform will not work on phones running Android OS 4.1, Apple’s iOS 10, or KaiOS 2.5.1.
The following smartphones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp:
- Apple
The iPhone SE, 6s, and 6s Plus from the first generation.
- Samsung
Samsung’s Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3 small, Galaxy Xcover 2, Galaxy Core, and Galaxy Ace 2 are among the company’s latest smartphones.
- LG
LG Lucid 2, Optimus F7, Optimus F5, Optimus L3 II Dual, Optimus F5, Optimus L5, Optimus L5 II, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L3 II, Optimus L7, Optimus L7 II Dual, Optimus L7 II, Optimus L7 II, Optimus F6, Enact, Optimus L4 II Dual, Optimus F3, Optimus L4 II, Optimus.
- ZTE
The Grand S Flex, ZTE V956, Grand X Quad V987, and Grand Memo are all ZTE devices.
- Huawei
Ascend G740, Ascend Mate, Ascend D Quad XL, Ascend D1 Quad XL, Ascend P1 S, and Ascend D2 are all Huawei smartphones.
- Sony
The Sony Xperia Miro, Sony Xperia Neo L, and Sony Xperia Arc S are three smartphones from Sony.
- Others
The Alcatel One Touch Evo 7, HTC Desire 500, Caterpillar Cat B15, Wiko Cink Five, Wiko Darknight, Lenovo A820, UMi X2, Faea F1, and THL W8 are among the smartphones available.
In a separate announcement, the business announced a new functionality that allows customers to move their chats from iOS to Samsung Android devices.
Previously, iOS conversation history were stored in iCloud, while Android chat histories were saved in Google Drive, making it practically impossible to move chats between phones running different operating systems. Instead, users would email themselves their chat logs.
The new function can transfer voice messages, images, and videos, but not call history or display name.
“To begin, this functionality is available on any Samsung device running Android 10 or higher, and additional Android devices will be available soon,” WhatsApp added.
During the initial setup of new phones, the migration must be accomplished.
The WhatsApp guidelines stated, “Your new Android device must be factory fresh or reset to factory settings.” Users who are already using a device will need to perform a factory reset.
In a blog post, WhatsApp stated, “This is just the beginning.” “We’re excited to make this option available to more individuals so they can securely transition between platforms and take their chats with them.”
