Thousands of women marched in different cities of Spain to protest against the increased sexism and sexual violence. The marches took place in Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia, and Bilbao in which thousands of women marches carrying banners and slogans against sexism and related crimes. They were demanding to end the sexual violence against women.
The participants said that they are on the streets to show respect and solidarity to all those women who are suffering from sexual violence and other crimes. According to government figures,since 2003, 972 women have been killed by their partners or ex-partners in Spain, 44 of those so far in 2018.
Violence against women has been a key political issue in Spain since 2004 when new laws were introduced against the crime. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reassured the women of Spain to eradicate violence against women and culture of sexism.
