President Trump never hides his love with Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel has the place in Trump administration’s Middle East and national security policy. Trump has so far changed the long standing American position on Palestine state and disputed Golan Heights. Trump has adopted Israeli position on Palestine state and Golan heights.
We can see the significant shift in American policy towards Israel and Palestine. Trump has provided blanket support to apartheid policies of Israeli state against Palestinian people. No condemnation of continued Jewish settlements on Palestine lands and use of brutal and excessive force by Israel against Palestine youth.
In a latest move, Trump has accepted Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Trump has accepted the Israeli claim over Golan Heights which it captures during the Arab-Israel war from Syria. For Trump administration, Golan Heights belongs to Israel. Trump administration is trying everything to ensure the election victory of current Prime Minister Netanyahu. Trump helping Netanyahu to deepen the impression inside Israel that what Netanyahu has achieved as Prime Minister no other Israeli leader has been able to accomplish. Trump is helping Netanyahu in a big way to secure election victory.
Every American administration has supported Israel since its creation in 1948. Israel has been a key component of American security policy in Middle East. It is part of American national security policy in the Middle East to enable Israel to establish its hegemony and domination over Arab states in the Middle East.
For American imperialism, Israeli hegemony in the Middle East and complete submission of Arab states and Iran is the only way to bring stability in the region. Trump wants to remove every hurdle which could create problems for Israel to realise this dream. Israeli concerns have always been given top priority by American establishment. The powerful Jewish lobby in America played key role in the formation of America’s Middle East policy.
Trump is fully backing the occupation and expansionist policy of Israeli state to deny the Palestinians their democratic, economic and fundamental human rights. Israel feels no pressure over the contentious issues of Jewish settlements over Palestine lands, creation of a viable Palestine state and end occupation of Palestine and Syrian areas. Trump has abandon the Palestinian people.
If the Trump administration’s actions and policies in the Middle East so far were not enough to worry people then the recent statement of American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo regarding Israel is enough to give sleepless nights for any sane person. The BBC has reported Pompeo is saying that possible divine origin of the 2016 election result as a necessary intervention to “save the Jews”.
He was asked if “president Trump right now has been sort of raised for such time as this, just like Queen Esther, to help save the Jewish people from an Iranian menace. As a Christian, I certainly believe that’s possible. I am confident that Lord is at work here,” said the former director CIA and Kansas senator of Republican Party.
Pompeo by virtue of his office has great power to do good or ill and he has clearly chosen to make decisions based not on American interests but rather on his own personal interpretation of a religious text. Further, he is promoting American interference in an election in Israel which might have led to a rejection of the extreme right wing philosophy that guides its current government.
More might be coming in the form of some recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Palestinian West Bank prior to the April 9th election or even some military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon or Iran.
Anyone who persists in thinking that nations should pursue policies that are rational and based on genuine interests should be appalled by the Pompeo comments and fearful of what the consequences might be.
