CPEC has always been more than a simple initiative, for many it represents the cohesion of the two nations and their mutual dedication towards progress. Amid, The United States of America’s trade war against China morphing into a complicated chaos, US made another attempt to thwart china’s influence in Pakistan. The unprecedented growth of China is seen as a threat by the USA, thus the contain-China policy of the US is meant to by all means control and limit china’s influence.
Since India and US have a common rival in the form of China, it is in the obvious reason why assessment of the impact of CPEC on Pakistan by Alice Well was ‘misplaced’. In the Woodrow Wilson forum for scholars in Washington, Alice Well’s statement on the matter was an uncalled for, undesirable and very irresponsible course of action. Statements such as Well’s may impact relations between the two countries which are already hanging by a thin thread.
Assumptions made by Well’s such as CPEC leading to more debt for Pakistan were also inaccurate and pure speculation. The Chinese loans only mark a meek 6.1 percent of the overall debt burden of Pakistan and thus are no threat to the reforms being implemented by the government.
Countless other claims regarding CPEC have also proved to be absurd, at most. CPEC is one of the most colossal initiatives regarding development in the last 2 decades. CPEC will implement a welcome change in the economic growth of Pakistan. Even severe political rivals do not differ in opinion regarding the significance, benefits and Efficiency of CPEC.
US has merely tried to scare away people from China because of their own insecurity. Another 150 countries and organizations of international scope have signed cooperation agreements with china. Meanwhile, even the United Kingdom has showed interest in joining CPEC
It is a burning question of every Pakistani, Why is USA concerned about Pakistani economy at this point? Why had USA never been bothered by Pakistan’s energy shortfalls before? Why had it not helped Pakistan in overcoming its energy crisis?
China has proved itself to a real friend and ally of Pakistan; it has always played a monumental role in Pakistan’s development. The constant support it on all issues of concerns is omnipresent. Even when Pakistan was abandoned by the US during the 1965 war with India, China reached out and helped deal with the crisis.
While the prices of aircrafts had spiked considerably, Pakistan’s Aeronautical Complex and the Chinese Aviation Industry teamed up to co-develop and co-produce the JF-17 Thunder aircraft in 1999. China has also provided a low-to-medium altitude Air Defense System for Pakistan’s Military which capable of tracking and eradicating a variety of air crafts.
Whether it is regarding the Chashma Nuclear Plants, construction of the KKH Highway or Heavy Mechanical Complex at Taxila, Pakistan is indebted to its true ally China for its role in the economic progress of the country. The attempts of the United States to mislead people about CPEC and China are futile. The attempts made by the US to try and pick apart the Pakistan and China Friendship according to their divide and conquer rule, are always going to remain inadequate.
