Bol News anchorperson Mureed Abbas was gunned down on Tuesday (July 9) night in Defence area of Karachi, police said. The funeral prayers of Mureed Abbas and his friend Khizar were offered in defence Khayaban-e-Bukhari.
Police officials said, citing initial details, that he was killed during a fight over a personal dispute. Police added that an unknown assailant opened fire at the journalist from a white-coloured car. According to details, he was sitting with his friend in a local restaurant of Khyban-e-Bukhari when some armed persons opened fire on them. Mureed Abbas died on the spot while his friend Khizer succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.
South DIG Sharjeel Kharal said that friends of the deceased informed the police that he had a monetary dispute with someone whose identity police had withheld for investigation purpose. Inspector General Police Sindh Kaleem Imam taking the notice of the killing of anchorperson summoned detailed report from DIG South and directed them to form a special team to arrest the assailants.
He also directed the concerned officials to conduct a forensic examination of the evidence collected from the crime scene. Hospital authorities said that Abbas received multiple bullets in his chest and abdomen. SSP South Sheraz Nazir said that the investigators are probing the element of personal enmity as the deceased journalist, earlier, filed a police complaint against few individuals.
Mureed Abbas Killer Attempts Suicide
In the development of the case, the assailant, who killed Mureed Abbas, attempted suicide in Defence. Police said assailant Atif Zaman, the business partner of the deceased Mureed Abbas, attempted suicide, however, police reached on the crime scene and shifted him to a hospital in critical condition where he is still under treatment.
