An accountability court on Tuesday (Feb 12) once again indicted former federal minister for communications Dr Arbab Alamgir and his wife Asma Alamgir, who was a member of National Assembly (MNA) in a case pertaining to assets beyond means. Both Pakistan Peoples Party leaders were appeared before court today.
After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court summoned witnesses at the next hearing , again indicted and removed the part regarding foreign properties from the new indictment. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against the couple for allegedly accumulating assets worth Rs332 million.
Asma Alamgir was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party on a seat reserved for women from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistani general election, 2008. In February 2010, she was made president of the women wing of Pakistan Peoples Party while she was working as provincial coordinator of PPP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In April 2010, she was appointed as Advisor to the Federal Minister of States and Frontier Regions.
