LONDON: Tuesday that scientists in the United Kingdom have reportedly created an anti-viral facemask that kills and not merely prevents the Covid-19 virus upon contact.
The Anti-viral Masks will be made available for public purchase by next month.
According to local media sources, the said anti-viral mask is being prepared by Britain’s Nottingham Trent University.
For months now, anti-viral masks whose final shape is on the anvil have reportedly been prepared and their target will be to kill the viral pathogens that cause respiratory infections such as coronavirus and influenza.
The facemasks are prepared in which a copper nanoparticle coating that is said to destroy virus upon near contact will be sandwiched.
Reports also say that even after it is used and discarded, the anti-viral facemask would not help viral spread.
It can be noted separately that the experimental vaccine of the American biotechnology company Moderna was 94.5 percent successful in preventing COVID-19 based on interim data from a late-stage trial, the company said on Monday, becoming the second U.S. drugmaker to announce results far beyond expectations.
The United States may have two vaccines approved for emergency use in December, with as many as 60 million doses of vaccine available this year in addition to Pfizer’s vaccine, which is already more than 90 percent effective, and awaiting more safety data and regulatory review.
