The necklace that Queens of United Kingdom wear on their own or their husbands’ coronation or at the official functions is known as the Lahore Diamond Necklace, The Lahore Diamond Necklace has an interesting story, Back in 1849 when the British entered the Lahore Fort they found a treasure far beyond their imagination.
At that time when British found a massive treasure in Lahore Fort they took Koh-i-Noor diamond along with them, The Koh-i-Noor diamond was also part of the Mughal Peacock Throne. the diamond is on public display in the Jewel House at the Tower of London, where the diamond is seen by millions of visitors each year, The governments of India, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan have all claimed rightful ownership of the Koh-i-Noor diamond and demanded UK its return ever since India gained independence from the UK in 1947. The British government insists the diamond was obtained legally under the terms of the Last Treaty of Lahore and has rejected the claims.
But the Koh-i-Noor diamond was not only jewel British found and there was a lot more in there than that, The list of items in the ‘Toshakhana’ of the Lahore Fort was handed over to Dr. John Login, the Administrator of the Lahore fort.
Dr. John Login made a new list based on the old list of the treasure inside for the ‘honorable’ East India Company which the list included items, the Koh-i-Noor, 5 bags of diamonds, 134 large pots of gold jewelry and precious stones, a huge store of expensive and rare Cashmere shawls and choghas, relics of Holy Prophet (Peace B Upon Him) (including his shoes, walking stick, shirt, cap as well as several locks of his hair).
This is only a fraction of the treasure they took away from Lahore, From the diamonds founds from Lahore fort treasury they made the Lahore diamond necklace for the Queen Victoria.
The Queen Victoria had this necklace made back in 1858 from 28 stones that she had removed from Garter Badge and a ceremonial sword, also from Lahore, The necklace added upto 161 carats, making it the most expensive necklace in the world with 9 largest stones weighing between 8 and 11 carats and the pendant stone, weighing 22.5 carat (cut down from original 103 carat), That pendant stone is the Lahore Diamond hence the name of the necklace till today, this necklace is among the most expensive necklaces in the world.
Every time the Queen of England steps out in all her royalty for official state functions adorning the Lahore Diamond necklace which the British at that time took away from Lahore.
