The United States welcomed the initiative of Pakistan and India of the Kartarpur corridor to facilitate the Sikh pilgrims. At a press conference, the State Department spokesperson said in Washington that this was good news and we encouraged it. Morgan Ortagus said that anything that can strengthen people-to-people ties between India and Pakistan is something that we are incredibly supportive of.
This move comes days after the second round of talks between the two nuclear-armed neighbours held at the Wagah border. The talks ended successfully with both sides “reaching a consensus on 80 per cent of the issues”.
PM Khan had laid the foundation stone of Kartarpur Corridor to link Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan with India’s Gurdaspur district, on Nov 28, 2018.
