The advisor to the Prime Minister of Finance and Revenue, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, chaired the meeting of the Economic Coordinating Committee (ECC) held on Wednesday and banned the export of wheat and wheat flour.
He asked the National Price Surveillance Committee to convene a meeting to suggest measures in cooperation with provincial governments to control the price increase of wheat products in the domestic market.
The Ministry of National Food Security and Research has submitted a report on wheat stocks in the country.
Although sufficient stocks of wheat are available to meet the needs of the population, it was noted that the wheat purchased this year was 33% lower than the amount purchased by the government last year. The recent rise in prices of wheat and wheat flour has also been a cause for concern.
