The Islamabad High Court on Monday (June 10) has dismissed the bail plea of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur in the fake accounts case. Subsequently, the court has allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to arrest both PPP leaders.
As the hearing went underway, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Jahanzeb Bharwana pleaded with the court for 20 minutes to give arguments in the case. He further disclosed that the Zardari Group and the Parthenon Private Limited had conducted transactions with the accounts, and said this was a detail of only one account from the total 29.
In response, Zardari’s lawyer said, “Let a bail hearing remain just that, do not turn it into a trial hearing,” Justice Farooq said while telling the NAB lawyer to only mention any details missed during arguments rather than recapping the whole case.
The Supreme Court on Jan 16 in a detailed judgment, authored by Justice Ijazul Ahsan directed to transfer the JIT report and all the material collected by the team to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) immediately. The court directed the NAB to prepare the references.
