After the resignation of Federal Minister Azam Sawati and Babar Awan, rumors was circulating that Zulfi Bukhari will resign from the post of Prime Minister’s Special Adviser on Overseas Pakistanis. But Zulfi Bukhari has denied all rumors regarding his resignation from the post. He appeared before officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday in a case pertaining to his offshore companies.
“My case is different from the ministers who have resigned,” Bukhari told media on Friday in reference to Azam Swati and Babar Awan.“My case is that of dual nationality, not of any theft. The Supreme Court will decide this matter,” he said, adding that his name may be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL). “Of the two ministers who have tendered their resignations, one had a reference ongoing against him and a joint investigation team (JIT) had been formed against the other minister. Mine is a dual nationality case and the Supreme Court will announce a decision on it.”
Bukhari had in 2016 defended having offshore companies and said that it was “legal and common practice for companies & businessmen like me to establish commercial entities in different jurisdictions.”
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday while hearing a petition challenging Bukhari’s appointment due to dual nationality, said that he only wants to see whether the London-based businessman was appointed in accordance with the law
