India’s bowling coach has shared an important update on pacer Mohammed Shami’s fitness ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. Shami is part of India’s 15-player squad for the ongoing five-match T20 series against England.
Before the series, reports suggested that Shami would test his fitness in the fourth or fifth game of the series as part of his preparation for the Champions Trophy.
Shami made his return to international cricket during the third game against England, where he bowled his full quota of overs, giving away 25 runs but not taking a wicket. However, he was replaced by pacer Arshdeep Singh in the fourth match.
India’s bowling coach has now indicated that Shami could get a chance to play in the final T20 against England. He shared, “Shami’s been bowling really well, and we’re happy with his progress. He’ll likely have an opportunity in the next game, but we’ll see how things go. It's exciting to have him back with the team.”
The coach also praised Shami for sharing his experience and knowledge with the younger bowlers in the squad. He added, “His input in training is a huge boost for this young bowling unit and for Indian cricket. It’s fantastic to have him back.”
Shami has been included in the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, along with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.
