The Ranji Trophy match between Railways and Delhi faced a delay when fans of Virat Kohli, the star Indian batter, ran onto the pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. Kohli was making his return to domestic cricket after a 13-year break, hoping to regain form for the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, his first appearance ended in disappointment for the hundreds of fans who had gathered to watch him play.
Kohli was bowled out for just six runs by Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan. The delivery was fuller, and Kohli tried to play it across the line, but the ball stayed low and hit the off-stump, sending him back to the pavilion. Dejected fans were seen leaving the stadium after his dismissal on Day 2.
On Day 3, fans returned in the hopes of seeing Kohli again, but things took a concerning turn during Railways’ second innings. Three fans broke through security and ran onto the field, attempting to meet Kohli, who was fielding near the pitch. A video of the incident quickly went viral, showing security staff chasing the fans, grabbing them, and escorting them off the field. The interruption caused a noticeable delay in the game.
This was the second such incident during the match. On Day 1, another fan had rushed onto the pitch to meet Kohli, leading to a brief disruption in the match.
