Rain in Brisbane proved to be a lifeline for India as most of Monday’s play was washed out during the third day of the third Test against Australia at the Gabba.
India struggled to reach 51-4 at stumps on a rain-hit day when only 17 overs were bowled. The players were forced off the field seven times due to repeated downpours. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 33, while captain Rohit Sharma was yet to get off the mark.
Chasing 245 to avoid the follow-on, India had a shaky start, losing three early wickets in the first session after dismissing Australia for 445. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli fell to Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
Rain disrupted play frequently, with Rishabh Pant dismissed just before an early tea break caused by another downpour. Poor light later forced the umpires to end the day’s play prematurely.
India will try to salvage a draw and go to Melbourne with the series knotted at one, as more rain is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
