Filmmaker Anurag Basu recently gave a significant update on his eagerly awaited movie Aashiqui 3, which stars Bollywood sensation Kartik Aaryan. In a recent interview, Basu confirmed that the film is still on track, with filming set to begin next month. He mentioned that the pre-production work for the movie is currently in full swing.
In the same interview, Basu compared the Indian film industry to the Korean film industry and admitted that Indian movies haven't yet achieved a global appeal. He noted, "World cinema is beginning to take notice of our films, but we still have a long way to go. Mainstream cinema is mostly focused on the Indian audience and diaspora, so we're not quite there yet in reaching a global audience."
Basu went on to explain, "While we are as young as the Korean film industry, they have already built a global fan base. People around the world watch Korean movies, just as we watch theirs. But our films are mostly enjoyed by Indian audiences, and a small group of international movie lovers. We haven’t been able to break into the global market yet."
He added, "In India, we focus on box office numbers – Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 100 crores, 500 crores. But that’s where our reach stops."
Regarding Aashiqui 3, the excitement surrounding the film began in 2022. Initially, it was supposed to be co-produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Mukesh Bhatt, just like the previous films in the franchise. However, in March of last year, Kumar announced that he would produce the film on his own and changed the title to Tu Aashiqui Hai. Later, reports surfaced suggesting that Aaryan is eager to keep Aashiqui 3 within the franchise and is working to revert the title back.
